ROBERT COLE

Teacher, Early Childhood Educator, Child and Youth Worker and always a student

Welcome to my website. I have been a student since I started Kindergarten in 1996 and have never stopped. I hold a diploma in Early Childhood Education, an advanced diploma in Child and Youth Work, a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Child Studies and currently working on my Bachelor of Education through the University of Ottawa. During that time I have volunteered in classrooms, successfully completed practicum placements in: a learning disabilities classroom, an alternative high school classroom, a kindergarten classroom and an early learning program. I have received high praise from the Teachers and Principals I have worked directly with for my dedication and professionalism. Working with children and youth is my passion and I believe in promoting the engagement of students in their own learning, providing equity in terms of student’s opportunities to succeed, and the engaging of parents and local communities in the development of overall student well-being. Having been a student for as long as I have I believe that the time has come for me to begin to give back and apply the skills I have learned to help better the lives of the coming generations.

PROFESSIONAL OUTLOOK

Teacher, Child and Youth Worker, and always a student

As a student for over twenty years I know the impact a teacher can have. It is a profound trust placed on the educator, who can either take a spark of inspiration or passion and snuff it out like a candle or, fan it until it is the brightest of lights. As a teacher I persevere to be worth that trust and to always fan that flame. In an effort to demonstrate that worthiness I have gathered in this website various articles that show my work as both a teacher, and a child and youth worker. I do this not only to show what I can do but also to share resources, so that other teachers may benefit from my experiences and information I have gathered.

“I have always had the greatest respect for students. There is nothing I hate more than condescension—the attitude that they are inferior to you. I always assume they have good minds.”
